Only people who can suffer from migraines can really tell how painful it can be. There are various medicines available for relieving migraines. However, those come with the cost of side effects. There are several types of home remedies that you can use for migraines, using essential oils is one of them. I will write here about how you can use essential oils for migraines.

Using Essential Oils for Migraines

Essential oils are really effective in treating migraines. You can use different types of essential oils for the cause. Following are some essential oils for migraines.

Peppermint Essential Oil

The soothing, cooling, and mind clearing properties of peppermint oil is great for relieving tension-related headaches. As soon as you feel that a migraine headache is on its way, you should apply peppermint oil immediately.

First, dilute a few drops of essential oil in a carrier oil. Then, rub it on your temple, forehead, and the back of your neck.

Lavender Essential Oil

This oil has stress-relieving and relaxing properties. It is also great for treating headaches and migraines. Just inhaling the scent of lavender oil for 10-15 minutes can reduce your migraine significantly.

There are several ways of using lavender oil: applying diluted oil to the skin, adding the oil to a warm bath, or using an oil diffuser.



Rosemary Essential Oil

Rosemary oil has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. Therefore, it is used for stress reduction, pain relief, and improved circulation. It can also help to reduce insomnia and relax muscles.

Mix a few drops of rosemary oil with a carrier oil, like coconut oil. Then, massage the affected area with it.

Eucalyptus Essential Oil

If your headaches are caused by sinus problems, you should use this oil. Sinus tension is responsible for headaches. Eucalyptus oil can help relieve it by clearing the sinuses and opening up the nasal passages.

Mix a drop of eucalyptus oil with a carrier oil, and then apply it to the chest.

Marjoram Essential Oil

It is a natural analgesic, which helps to relieve the pains of a headache. Moreover, it is an anti-spasmodic, which helps to relieve the tight sore muscles that generally come with a migraine headache.

Roman Chamomile Essential Oil

This oil is great for soothing evening and nighttime headaches. It also contains anti-inflammatory and sedative properties.

First, dilute a few drops of essential to a carrier oil. Then, add it to a bath or hot water. After that, breathe in the steam.

Ginger Essential Oil

This oil has effect on the gastrointestinal tract. It helps to relieve the nausea and vomiting associated with migraines. It also contains pain relieving properties.

Helichrysum Essential Oil

Although relatively unknown to the USA, this oil has been used for many years to treat various medical conditions in many countries. It has been used to treat headaches and migraines for its anti-inflammatory properties.
